The story
As a designer there is no greater compliment than when you deliver a project back to a client and they say, “Are you sure this is the same property?”
The objective of any designer is to integrate design while honoring the architect. Here we gutted the structure to the studs (except for the brick), reorganized the rooms, added 21st-century infrastructure, excavated a portion of the hillside and removed all landscaping and hardscape.
When completed, I wanted the owner and every visitor to walk through the house and the grounds and feel as if they had been transported back to a timeless 1932 estate with a few modern twists.
